Guide — 01 November 2011

This guide are for those that own a PS3 but having difficulty in getting Dolby Digital sound during gaming. It’s a waste if you never fully use your av receiver that support Dolby and DTS format when you have a PS3. Other than watching Blu-ray on your PS3, you can also experience the full range sound of Dolby Digital 5.1 when you play any PS3 games. All this depends on the games itself to output either in Dolby or DTS format. In order just to get a basic Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, you need to do some setting on your PS3 and use high quality HDMI cable for optimum performance. Just follow the steps below.

Step 1
Go to Sound Setting

Step 2
Choose the first option Audio Output Setting and choose HDMI

Step 3
Then you will enter a screen with all the sound format.

Step 4
Check & uncheck the following sound formats
1. Dolby Digital 5.1 Ch. (Check)
2. DTS 5.1 ch. (Check)
3. DTS TrueHD (Check)
4. DTS HD Master Audio (Check)
5. * Uncheck all Linear PCM format (important)

Step 5
Go to next screen and ‘Save’

Now, start any of your PS3 games and you can enjoy in full range of Dolby Digital & DTS 5.1 Channel! This setting is for PS3 Slim and the sound formats only available if the PS3 game are Dolby/DTS compatible.

For ExampleSOCOM 4 support DTS format, your AV receiver will only decode DTS while Call of Duty : Covert Ops support Dolby Digital, your receiver will output in Dolby Digital! Final Fantasy XIII output Dolby Digital as well. No worries three games tested and it’s working! ;)

Good luck!
