DJ Bunga (aka Lim Kok Kean, advertising event manager), DJ Chaseylain (aka Kelvin Oon, photographer) and Ribut 10:59 (aka Daryl Goh, music journalist) and DJ XU (aka Su, stylist and boutique owner) make up the core membership of the Twilight Actiongirl. Additional artistic support and art direction by * (aka Linus Teoh).

Born out of frustration with the local club scene which only caters to the generic dance genres and hip-hop (don’t get it wrong, we love N.W.A.), the Twilight Actiongirl gang started out indie DJ nights in late 2003 as an outlet for themselves and like-minded friends to gather and have some unpretentious fun. Promotion of the night was strictly do-it-yourself style with self-made photocopied flyers and through word-of-mouth. With a broad music policy which covers everything from electro-punk-rock&roll-disco, indie guitar, Britpop to garage rock to ska to classic soul to leftfield electro and all points in-between, Twilight Actiongirl’s main agenda is to open people’s minds and ears to new and vintage classic tunes which the general masses have overlooked.

Currently, Twilight Actiongirl holds a rather glamorous, high profile weekly Friday night residency at The Loft, Zouk KL for the past 7 years, making it one of the longest running club night of any genre in KL. The fairytale, as we never predicted, is coming true for the indie DJ cause in KL and is still going strong after 7 rocking years.

From humble beginning of gathering a growing legion of friends and fans at the now defunct Bar Amber, Sri Hartamas in our first year, Twilight Actiongirl decided it was time for a change and decamped to their current spot, The Loft, with guest deejays in tow. Nearly 10 months of DIY promotion has earned Twilight Actiongirl a cult following. Friday nights at The Loft have been packed since Twilight Actiongirl docked at the decks early November 2004, with a crossover range of mature music fans and the college set. Twilight Actiongirl won Best New Local Night in local club entertainment JUICE in 2004 and again took home the honours for Best Local Club Night and Most Up For It Crowd in JUICE for 2005.

WHAT: The Twilight Actiongirl’s intent is to continue ripping up the rulebooks for spinning hipsters and far searching club kids. The music playlist is as current as it can possibly get, considering the each member is a music freak and the entire average music collection between the bunch is 25,000 CDs (and rising). So take your pick, we have the genres covered. But there’s always room to blend in the roots. Where else would you find Hives, The Killers, The Rapture, Zoot Woman, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Stone Roses, Strokes, Primal Scream, Iggy Pop, The Libertines’s danceable rock & roll action merging with the vintage soul of Motown, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield before the Chicks On Speed, Miss Kittin, DM, Fisherspooner and New Order serve up a manic electro side order to creak the floorboards. As often said, the Twilight Actiongirl may well confound the feet but it’s sure to rock the soul and warm the heart.

NOTABLE GIGS: Twilight Actiongirl has been a regular deejay fixture for the hip magazines in KL. A spot at KLue magazine’s anniversary party in 2003 was followed by a bigger gig at KLue’s Urbanscapes festival on Jan 31, 2004. JUICE magazine picked Twilight Actiongirl for their anniversary parties for two years in a row (2003-04) too.
