Sutra Melissa

Self-taught DJ Sutra, who hails from Sarawak has been perfecting her skills in the comfort of her bedroom since 1998. Traveling extensively throughout Malaysia with her DJ partner & mentor she has been in the console with some of the best DJ’s in the local industry all the while being the observer, quietly learning and taking in the different feel and techniques of each DJ she met.

Sutra’s love for music and her immaculate skills on the deck was only impaired by the performance anxiety she suffered from since she was young. In 2005 she left the club scene to join the corporate world thinking that she has closed for good a chapter in her life.

Destiny had a different plan. In 2008 Sutra got acquainted with some passionate people in the most unlikely place and together they worked on a project which re-ignited her passion for music. 2 of them went on to become the founder & co-founder of VIMA (Malaysia’s Indie Music Awards) and AVIMA (World’s Biggest Independent Music Awards).

As for Sutra, the project was a wake up call and this time the flame of passion was too great. Helmed with more than a decade’s worth of learning the art of DJ-ing and a newfound tranquility in taking charge of the deck, Sutra is now back within the club circuits, ready to get the party going with her brand of music.
