Dangerdisko

The brainchild of DJs Robotron 5000 and Shaheed Naz, DANGERDISKO is an electronica DJ/producer duo from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Heavily influenced by greats such as Daft Punk and JUSTICE, they strive to make the Kuala Lumpur nightlife scene, a happier place.

Born in the dust laden bedroom studios of Subang Jaya, Malaysia, the group was originally founded when long time friends; Farez Khan (Robotron 5000) and Shaheeran (Shaheed Naz) discovered their passion for electronica. Both were aspiring bedroom DJs with different DJing backgrounds (Farez Khan was a hip hop DJ and MC while Shaheeran was a Drum N Bass DJ) and were coincidentally members of an underground experimental rock band; Grape, where Farez Khan was the vocalist and Shaheeran was the sampler. They started creating their own music under the moniker “They Came From Mars!” and in 2007, entered the Heineken Thirst competition and became finalists in the prestigious competition. Their original songs were shortlisted the Top 10 amongst thousands of entries and at the end of 2007, the group released their tracks “Martini” and “Sunshine” on a drum n bass compilation entitled “Loops Collective 01”, released under Acid Records. After the release of the compilation, the duo decided to concentrate their creative juices towards the making of Grape’s debut album, entitled “In Flight Music” which was released in Malaysia in July 2008 to critical acclaim.

After a long hiatus, both were eager to start their electronica work. So in August 2008, DANGERDISKO was born. By following in the footsteps of their French influences, the duo created a massive following in Frangipani Restaurant and Bar KL by introducing their brand of mashup nights. Their brand of New Wave, 80s, French House and Electro captivated the whole Kuala Lumpur nightlife scene. The fashion scenes in KL were captivated as well, and they were booked for fashion shows all year long. By the end of 2008, DANGERDISKO created their own brand of fashion nights, thus the RUNWAY THUNDER series was born. The RUNWAY THUNDER series made an impact to the Malaysian Fashion world and became a prominent launching pad for young and aspiring fashion designers.

By January 2009, the duo was booked to the brim. They then started their own electroclash series in Heritage Mansion, KL called the ELECTRIC PLAYGROUND. The series of nights opened to an overwhelming response and is still going on strong till today. To date, DANGERDISKO has played alongside various respectable DJs from all over the world such as DJ SITO from Spain, DJ DOMINGO from Peru, TIM COATES from London, JETSEVEN GODDESS DJS (TIARA EVE, DELIZIOUS DEVINA and DJ JESSICA) from Bali, Indonesia, DEFECTED RECORDS and not to mention vibrant local acts such EDDIE ELECTRIC, MR.Q, TWILIGHT ACTIONGIRL, JOEY G, DJ GABRIEL and many more.

In July 2009, they successfully toured Jakarta, Indonesia with a series of special appearances at notable clubs such as Dragonfly, X2 and Barcode. They are currently in the midst of executing a Hong Kong tour this December.

DANGERDISKO is currently remixing a number of local artistes tracks and are, at present, working on a 5 track independent EP entitled “Turn Off The Television” which will be in stores by February 2010.

Who is DANGERDISKO?
Shaheed Naz
A self taught DJ, Shaheed Naz has made a name for himself in the music scene. Since 2002, he has been spinning in countless of clubs including Zouk KL, Nouvo, BarClub, Chill Bar, Rendezvous Sarawak, Barcode and Bar One Six, to name a few. Spinning a wide variety of digital music, he doesn’t stops there. He sometimes would incorporate live instrumentation into his live sets. He was one of the Heineken Thirst 2006 finalists with his duo, They Came From Mars!; shortlisted from 150 plus participants, they made it to the top 10. He is also the synth/sampler for rock bands such as Telephony Delivery, Grape and the mastermind of Green Screen Radio; which was recently touted as having one of the best independent tracks of 2008 by JUNK magazine online.

Robotron 5000
A no stranger to the music scene; as a vocalist and a DJ, Farez Khan graduated from the Klubbers DJing Academy in 2001. Previously of the underground hip hop group 69 Neighborhood, he has been actively performing with his band, Grape since 2000 as a vocalist and they have been performing all over Malaysia ever since. In 2006, he joined the electronica duo, They Came From Mars! and they were the finalists for the Heineken Thirst 2006 competition. Since then, he has been actively Djing for private parties and fashion shows, performing and producing albums for bands such as Ashes of Scarlet and more. The creator of the RUNWAY THUNDER fashion series, he is currently an event coordinator for iseekmusic entertainment and spins on a frequent basis at Frangipani Restaurant and Bar and The Heritage Mansion.
